Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Hermina Doris was born on November 27, 1919, in Crookston, Minnesota, the youngest daughter of thirteen children born to Herman and Johanna (Meinders) Bruxvoort. As a young child, her family settled in rural Orange City.

On November 14, 1940, she married Roy A. “Bud” Bloemendaal in Orange City. They lived on the Bloemendaal family farm for 34 years, before retiring into Orange City. He passed away on October 11, 1989, in Orange City, after almost 49 years of marriage.

On May 21, 1993, she married Gerald Bloemendaal in Orange City, where they continued to live. He passed away on October 31, 1997, in Orange City.

In 2010, “Hermie” became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In early 2012, she moved to the Orange City Long Term Care Facility. In May of the same year, she transferred to the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

Besides being a homemaker, she and her husband would “house-sit”, and she did wallpapering and filled the valuable and trusted role of cleaning the homes of several Orange City families.

Mrs. Bloemendaal was a longtime member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, faithfully attending worship services and women’s Bible studies.

She was an avid gardener, growing flowers and houseplants. She will be most remembered for her sweet and gentle personality, including her ready smile, her gracious nature, her sense of humor, and her genuine interest in others, which made a lasting effect on many lives.

Hermina was adored by all of her nieces and nephews and she treasured being part of their lives, as well as those of Gerald’s family. She appreciated being cared for by her niece and her husband, JoAnn and Clarence Huygens.

Survivors include six step-children and their families; a sister-in-law, Verda Bruxvoort, of Visalia, California; and many nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian Elementary School.
