A Solemn Requiem High Mass was offered for Aloysius William Kellen, longtime resident of Alton at St. Mary’s Church Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 A.M.

Reverend Peter Stoll S.V.D. of Chicago, Illinois was celebrant. Rt. Reverend Monsignor Zeno Reising, Deacon, Reverend Thomas Walding, Sub Deacon.

Mass servers were grandchildren, Stephen and Dale Hansen, Robert Ruba, Hansen and Glenn Kellen of Le Mars. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were nephews--Le Roy and Robert Kellen, Joseph and Peter Stoll, Harold Reichle and Owen Hamker.

Mr. Kellen died Wednesday, October 19, at his home in Alton after failing health for a year. He was born May 11, 1898, in Le Mars, the son of Nicholas Kellen and Anna Colling Kellen. His marriage to Elizabeth Stoll took place February 12, 1924. He farmed near Granville and Akron until they three years ago when he retired to Alton.

Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth; seven sons: Louis of Rock River, Ohio; Lawrence of Le Mars; Ambrose of Terrance, California; Jerome and Joseph both of Alton; Daniel of St. Charles, Illinois and Arnold of Ames; two daughters, Mrs. Sylvester (Dolores) Hansen of Alton and Mrs. Melvin (Agnes) Ruba of Remsen; 31 grandchildren; three brothers: Peter and Charles Kellen of Le Mars and Leo, Mankato, Minnesota; three sisters: Katherine Kellen of Le Mars; Mrs. Bert (Mary) Schnurr of Granville and Sister Mary Annice O.S.F. of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters and one grandchild.

Mr. Kellen was a successful farmer and devoted family man, a kind neighbor who numbered his friends by the hundreds. All deplore his too early passing and will miss him.
