This week we must chronicle the life description of the late Mr. Wm. Vellinga. After a disease since November, following years of hard work, and at times feeling bette, Willem Vellinga died calmly Monday night but still unexpectedly at age 75 years and 5 months. He was born at St. Anna Parish in the Netherlands, he arrived in 1868 with his father, brother and two sisters at Pella, Iowa. There he married Miss Katie Van der Ploeg in 1870. The couple moved to Sioux County in 1872 and settled on a farm 2 miles west of Newkirk. They were blessed with seven children; Evert, Jennie (Mrs. Hannes Van Oort); Ida, (Mrs. Jake Van Rooyen); Anna (Mrs. G. Hofmeyer); Katie (Mrs. R. Van der Haak); Gertrude (Mrs. Rev. A. Wassink); Minnie (Mrs. Henry Vogel). The family settled in 1896 in the southwest of Orange City and later moved to Main Street. Willem Vellinga was well thought of, which also appears from his appointment as a member of the Chr School Board. His going away is regretted by many, but especially by his wife and children, two sisters, Mrs. Van der Stoep and Mrs. Verheul; and a brother, Ring Vellinga, 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Family service at half past one service at the house, and at 2 pm in the Chr. Ref. Church under the direction of Ds. M. J. Monsma.
