From the Sioux County Index (Hull), November 11, 1921:

Wm. VanBroek Dead.

Wm. Van Broek died at his home in Hull, last Sunday [November 6], of diabetes, and was buried Wednesday. Mr. VanBroek at one time was the baker in the Excelsior Bakery, but had to give up the work on account of his health. He is survived by a wife and three children. The children being married and residing in the Netherlands.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. J. J. Weersing, from the Christian Reformed church, and the remains were laid to rest in Hope Cemetery.

A news note in the Index in March 1921, about a change in residence, refers to him as Baker Broek.

A news note about his funeral in the Alton Democrat, November 12, 1921, Hull news, calls him William Van Brook.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has an entry for a Van Broek, no forename or dates, buried in Hope Cemetery, Hull. Other family names in the index are Broek (no Van).

The 1920 U.S. Census for Hull, Iowa, has William Van Brock or Van Broek, age 56, born Netherlands, a baker, and his wife Hiske[?] (59), born Netherlands. They immigrated in 1918 [?, the numbers are indistinct] and are living with Berend Teslaa (59), a carpenter, his wife Berdina (62), and their daughter Wilhelmina (20), who immigrated from the Netherlands in 1911.

His death certificate has him as William Van Broek; born in the Netherlands Nov. 12 or 22 [unclear], 1863; lived in the United States 8 years and in Hull 4 years 2 months; parents Foppe Van Broek and Dotty Zylstra; wife Giske Van Broek; occupation, baker, employed by O. Dykstra; died in Hull Nov. 6, 1921, at 3 p.m.; cause, cardiac decomposition, duration 1 year 6 months, contributory factor, none.
