A sad accident occurred last Saturday afternoon at the Van Der Stoep school, east of town, when Elizabeth, the three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kanis fell backwards into a boiler of scalding hot water. Mrs. Kanis and her neighbor, Mrs. Will De Jager were preparing to clean the school house and had taken the boiler of water there for that purpose. The little girl was playing about the room and stumbled against the boiler, pushing the broiler off. She was taken to the Orange City Hospital and attended by Drs. Ongel and DeBey. She died at eight o’clock Saturday evening from shock.

The funeral was held in Orange City Tuesday afternoon and was conducted from the residence of her grandparents. She was laid to rest in the West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, Iowa.
