HAD BEEN CONFINED TO HER ROOM FOR MANY MONTHS, BUT ONLY RECENTLY SERIOUSLY ILL

Mrs. Anna Karstens passed away last Saturday morning, at the age of eighty-one years. She had been seriously ill since last Thursday morning.

Mrs. Anna Marie Sprick Karstens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Sprick, was born in Hanover Germany on March 7, 1863. She received the Grace of God in Holy Baptism in early infancy and became an active member of the Lutheran Church of her home community when confirmed at the customary age. Her childhood and early youth was spent at the place of her birth. After coming to America in late youth, she found employment in New York City. Not satisfied with the climate, she came to the West and made her home in Iowa.

She was given in marriage to John Christian Karstens on June 23, 1892. This happy union was blessed with two children, Mary and Albert. The couple established their home on a farm in Lyon County; they moved to Hull in 192. Her husband died in 1934. The widow maintained her confidence in Hull until about 1938 when she disposed of her property, preparatory to making her home with her daughter in New Jersey.

However, the eastern climate was not suitable and she returned to Hull a year later and made her home in the local hotel in a room provided by her son, Albert: her niece, Augusta Karstens took care of her. Her condition suddenly took a serious turn and she departed on May 6, 1944, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 29 days.

She leaves to mourn her death son, Albert of Spencer, Iowa; her daughter, Mrs. Mary Henry of Red Bank, New Jersey; three grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, who wish her rest in peace.

She was laid to rest on May 10th in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Services were held in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Reverend A.F. Zenk officiating. Claerbout and Wier were in charge.
