MRS. SELINA KARHOFF, 92, GRANVILLE PIONEER DIES AT FORT DODGE

Funeral services for Mrs. Selina Karloff, 92, of Pocahontas, were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church there Monday, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Granville, beside the body of her husband, Bernard Karhoff, who died in 1907.

Mrs. Karhoff died early Thursday morning at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge where she was a patient for a month following a fall in which her hip was fractured. This took place in her home in Pocahontas.

Selina Schutz was born November 19, 1869 in Belgium, and came to the U.S. at the age of four years with her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Schutz. In 1878 the family settled on a farm southeast of Granville. February 7, 1899 she was married to Bernard Karhoff and they resided in Granville, where their son and three daughters were born.

In 1949 she went to Pocahontas with her son, Reverend H.B. Karhoff, for whom she kept house for many years from 1939 to 1962. Reverend Karhoff conducted the last rites for his mother-- a Solemn High Mass.

Surviving are her son and two daughters, Mrs. Lind Cooper of Moville; Grayce, Mrs. L. Hons of Sioux City. A daughter Clementine, Mrs. Francis Kopp died at Glendale, California in 1956. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Karhoff was the last surviving member of the Schutz family, pioneer settlers of the Granville vicinity.
