The sad news was announced on Wednesday of last week that William L. Gilmore had at last succumbed to the grim destroyer and passed into the great beyond. He had been a invalid for a number of years but the immediate cause of death was stomach trouble. The funeral occurred at the Catholic Church last Friday after which the remains were escorted to their last resting place by relatives and friends and the G. A. R. post of which he was a member. The deceased had been a resident of this place for 14 years, having moved here from Wisconsin in 1882, and he was 74 years of age at the time of this death.

Note: Family members were not found, only that he was a widower.

It is with pleasure that THE INDEPENDENT announces that W. L. Gilmore, of this place, has been granted a pension. Just how much he has been allowed, has not yet been ascertained. It has now
been nearly twenty-five years since Mr. Gilmore made his application, and all the claim agents, he has had working up his case have failed.

About two years ago Attorney Palmer took it in charge and after a great amount of persistent labor has at last succeeded in getting the claim allowed. Mr. Gilmore is now getting along in years, is rather feeble, and the allowance will prove a source of joy and comfort to his reclining years.
