Mrs. Della Kreykes, age 95, of Hospers, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 12, at 11:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Marvin Leese will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hospers Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 10:30am, at the church.

Visitation with the family present will be on Saturday, from 9:30am to 10:30am, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Della Mae was born on April 30, 1922, in rural Hospers, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Brower) Swets. She was raised at Hospers and graduated from the Western Christian High School in Hull and attended Westmar College in Le Mars. She then taught classes at the Doon Christian School and the Hospers Christian School.

On February 9, 1945, she married John F. Kreykes at the Swets farm home near Sheldon. They farmed near Sheldon for two years and then moved to a farm by Archer, where she was a homemaker. About 1990, they retired into Hospers. In October of 2008, they moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. John passed away on April 23, 2011, in Sheldon, after more than 66 years of marriage.

In February of 2015, Della transferred to Sanford Senior Care.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in all of the women’s organizations and assisted with Cash for Trash for the Hospers Christian School. She was also active in The Gideons International with her husband.

Mrs. Kreykes enjoyed serving others her homemade baked goods and had a special love for young children and infants. She also raised chickens, especially for their eggs, and in her retirement years, she and John liked to go fishing together.

Survivors include her four children, Ruth Loehr, of Spencer; Fred Kreykes, and his wife, Sandy, of Pella; Muriel, and her husband, Mike Wielenga, of Sioux Center; and Kenneth Kreykes, and his wife, Rochelle, of St. John, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, Wade (Joni) Loehr, Trevor (Melissa) Loehr, Jason (Dana) Kreykes, Kris (Wayne) Vander Leest, Kim (Matt) Doty, Daniel (Renee) Wielenga, Raelle (Justin) Dekkers, Kendra (Bob) Overbeck, Rhea (Bruce) Van Baren, Noelle (Maxwell) Groen, Lydia Kreykes, and Gabrielle Kreykes; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steve Loehr; a granddaughter, Emma Kreykes, a great-grandchild, Hailey Loehr; and four sisters, Nellie Vanden Berg, Wilma Mouw, Kathryn Rensink, and Evelyn Van Leeuwen.
