Pamela Kaye Vander Lugt, age 65, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System, after a strong and valiant battle with cancer.

Pam was born August 29, 1951, in Rock Rapids, the daughter of Bud and Geneva (De Jongh) Van Hill. She was raised at Hills, Minnesota, where she attended the Christian school until the age of 10. Her family then moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she attended the Christian school and graduated from Lincoln High School.

On September 4, 1970, Pam married the love of her life, Les Vander Lugt in Sioux Falls. They made their home in various communities, including De Motte, Indiana and Sioux City, where they raised their three kids in a loving home where everyone was welcome…so much so, Pam touched the lives of friends, neighbors, and her children’s friends who continue to love her and adore her. In July, 1987, they moved to Webster City, where she was employed by the Hamilton County Hospital. Nine years ago, Pam and Les settled in Orange City, where she was the health information manager at the Orange City Area Health System.

Pam enjoyed riding horses, cooking and baking, reading, traveling, serving God passionately, and loving her family and friends. Even the friends of her children called her “Mom”. Pam treasured her early morning hours, patiently waiting for her grandbabies to wake up, so she could snuggle with them and read their favorite books to them over and over again. Pam was a faithful member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where she was a shepherd for a care group.

Survivors include her husband of more than 46 years, Les; two sons and their wives, Chad and Amanda Vander Lugt, of Sioux Falls; and Shawn and Jaime Vander Lugt, of Johnstown, Colorado; a daughter and her husband, Erin and Ben Pullen, of Spencer; seven grandchildren, Micah, Caden, Hannah, Guy, Neva, Wil, and Nash; three brothers, Marlyn Van Hill, and his wife, Carla, of Alvord; Randy Van Hill, and his wife, Cindy, of Inwood; and Gary Van Hill, of Sioux Falls; a brother-in-law and his wife, Marv and Donna Kempema, of Doon; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cheryl Kempema.

Visitation will be held at Calvary Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, with family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, at 11:00am, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. John Klompien will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45am at the church, followed by interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, prior to the memorial service.

Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Church benevolent fund or the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
