Esther Jones, 87, died on Saturday, April 21, 1990, in Evergreen Terrace Health Care Center in Madison, South Dakota.

Services were held on Monday morning, April 23, 1990 in the United Methodist Church at Chester, South Dakota, Reverend John McKnight officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, Iowa, on Monday afternoon. The Weiland Funeral Chapel of Madison was in charge of arrangements.

Esther Altena Kaske was born on October 12, 1902 in Wentworth, South Dakota. She married Arthur E. “Sam” Jones on September 7, 1921 in Madison, South Dakota. They farmed near Ireton, Iowa until 1967 when they moved to Madison; she was employed at Wenks Produce there. In 1972 they returned to Ireton, where she lived until moving to Madison in 1982. She was a member of the Chester Senior Citizens; the United Methodist Church in Ireton; and the Ireton Kitchen Band.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Marion (“Bud”) and Viola Jones of Chester; a brother, Walter Kaske of Madison; three grandchildren, Kelly, Robert and Ronald Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Alta (Mrs. Martin) Meyers and Troy Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, In 1973; her parents, Gus and Laura Kaske; four sisters; and two brothers.
