Died: 1934

W.W. Johnson, a resident of Rock Valley for the past twenty years, passed away at his home early Tuesday morning, following a brief illness. Although he had not been well for some time past, Mr. Johnson was not taken seriously ill until last Saturday. Everything possible was done for him, but at his advanced age he was not able to survive. He had attained the age of eighty-five years, five months and twenty-six days. His wife preceded him in death almost a year ago.

William Whitney Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Parmelia Whitney Johnson, was born at Corning, New York, September 25, 1848. When a young man he came to Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his father and brother, later moving to LeRoy, Minnesota. He was united in marriage with Alice Cory Blount at Decorah, Iowa, March 11, 1874. After their marriage, they made their home at LeRoy until 1893 when they moved to Rock Valley. After a residence of four years here, they moved to Hartley, Iowa, where they resided seventeen years, in 1914 they moved back to Rock Valley and since that time Mr. Johnson has made his home here.

Mr. Johnson bought grain for the Hunting Elevator Company for forty-two years.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Grace J. Large, and one son, Arthur C. Johnson, of Rock Valley, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon (today) at 2:00 o’clock, and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery.

The bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their great sorrow.
