Tuesday, June 10, it was the Lord’s will to take from us, our dear father, father-in-law, and grandfather. C. Groendyk, (Cornelis/Cornelius) At the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 25 days. He died at the home of his children at Bemis S. D. where he had been living for years. .

Tuesday evening, two Bemis, S. Dak., Deceased,
Mr. C. Groendjk, old 90 years old,
7 months, and 25 days, died at Bemis SD Tuesday evening after lingering a few weeks. Friday a funeral service was held in the Bemis Chr. Ref. church, and then his remains were transported to Orange City and buried here on Saturday.

Services were held from the 1st Chr. Ref. church, under the leadership of Ds. L. Ypma, of Sioux Center. The old father Groendyk was very well known here, since he has spent much of his life here, living a block east of the old Betten Hotel, where his dear wife (Neeke Swart in 1912) died.

A year or so ago after staying with his daughter Mrs. Muyskens she died , after which he went to his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stryland to Bemis S. D., He is survived by the last-mentioned docter, two sons John from Sheldon, and Cornelis in Ocheyedan, and another daughter, Mrs. Gt. Van der Muelen, living in Ocheyedan.

People from elsewhere were at the funeral here of Bemis, Mr. and Mrs. W. Van Stryland, Sheldon, Mr and Mrs. J. Groendyk and children; Janet Muyskens; from Ocheyedan. Mr. and Mrs C. Groendyk and children and Mr. and Mrs. G. Van der Muelen and children; from Strom Lake, Mrs. B. Rens and Cornelius G. Muyskens van Hull, Mr and Mrs. C. Bos, and Nellie and Harriet Brunsting, of Newkirk, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hofs, and Mr. and Mrs. Van Rooyen, and possibly others. Our deepest sympathy to the family.

Note: Cornelis Groendyk born 15 Oct 1833 Netherlands died 10 Jun 1924 Deuel Co. SD married 30 Dec 1863 Terschelling Friesland Netherlands to Neeltje Swart 1839- died 15 March 1912 Orange City. He was the son of Jan Cornelis Goendyk 1802 -1862 and Neeke Willemsd Cupido 1805-1851.
