Translated (after a fashion ) from the Dutch version

After a long lasting suffering, Mrs. Arie Groen, (Mary Van Groningen), died on Saturday morning at the age of 48 years. Three miles northwest of Hospers, she was born, 27 Aug 1871. On 8th of Jan 1892, she was married to Arie Groen. The couple has lived all those years. Out of this marriage, 10 more children were born Nellie Mrs. Jas. Coughlin, Sask Canada, Dick at home, John a Soldier in France, Charles, Winifred, Marie, Arie and the Twins, Kenneth and Ruth all still home. A child passed on before.

The mother had a strong desire to meet her son, soldier John, before her death, which has did not happen. After her illness, there was notice that John was in the camp in Long Island NY, where he was under quarantine, as the pox and red pox had broken out in this camp. Those who visited with her about her soul believed that she was a Chrisiain all the time. Besides children, she had three more brothers, living in Chicago, III. Humboldt Ia., and Alton, Ia.

Funeral was held on Tuesday night under Rev. D. Mc Ewan, at half past two from the deceased’s house. She was buried in the evening, the daughter, Mrs. Coughlin, with the evening train from Canada was expected. Present were Mr and Mrs. P Groen, from Corslca, S. D., Cornelius Groen, Sioux City, Mr and Mrs. G. Groen, Wilmont, Minn., Mr and Mrs. C. Van der Poel, Rock Valley. The other family members were also expected.
