DEATH OF JOHN JANSEN OF MAURICE--CAME TO AMERICA WHEN NINETEEN

John Jansen died at the Le Mars Hospital last Tuesday night at 11:30 from cancer of the stomach. He had been ailing for about seven weeks.

John Jansen was born on the 17th of October in 1852 therefore at the time of his death being 72 years, 7 months, 3 weeks and 4 days. When he was 19 years of age he came alone to America, moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan. There on November 23, 1881 he was united in marriage to Flora Van Dam to which union 9 children were born, 7 of whom survive, they being, Mrs. Bouwakamp and Mrs. Ale Veen of Sioux Center, Mrs. William Wielenga of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mrs. Gordos of South Haven, Michigan and John, Jerry and Bert at home.

About ten years ago he moved with his family to Sioux Center and 2 and a half years ago they moved to Maurice locating on the farm where they still live. He is also survived by 3 sisters and a brother: Mrs. Mute, Mrs. Tavelaar, Mrs. Everdyk and Henry Jansen all of Grand Rapids.

The funeral services were conducted by Reverend Straks and Reverend Schunn of Sioux Center at the Sioux Center Church. Interment was at the Sioux Center Cemetery.
