James “Jake" Jacobsma, 80, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died at home Tuesday April 5, 2005 in Levelland, Texas. Cremation was under the direction of George Price Funeral Home of Levelland, Texas.

A service will be Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Hospers, Iowa. Honorary pallbearers include: John Pratt, Harlyn Jacobsma, Darrell Jacobsma, John Golden, Wayne Johnson, Paul Jacobsma, Tom Magee, and Jack Magee.

James Jacobsma was born December 8, 1924. He was formerly married to Alene Jacobsma (deceased) currently to Charolette Jacobsma of Levelland, Texas. He owned and operated Jacobsma Transportation in Sioux City, Iowa from 1946 to 1981. He then founded Jake’s Transport in Whiteface, Texas in 1981. He retired in 2000.

He was a US Army veteran, serving with the 101st Airborne, 501 B Company during the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory are sisters and brothers: Freda Dickey, Millie Hastings, H. (Bud) Pratt, Arvin Jacobsma, Searle Jacobsma (deceased) and Duane and Anna Beth Magee of Hospers; children: Craig Jacobsma and wife Cynthia of Council Bluffs, Reid Jacobsma and wife of Sioux City, Marc Jacobsma and wife Susan of Midland, Texas, Wade Jacobsma and wife Karen of Lees Summit, Missouri, and daughter, Parri Sypersma of New Braunfels, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Brooke Wolfe and Hope Warren, Paul and Lee Jacobsma, Julie, Claire and Luke Jacobsma, and Carolyn Jacobsma; 4 great-grandchildren: Seton and Howard Warren, Blasé and Caroline Wolf.

The family suggests donations to Hospice of Lubbock, Texas.
