From the Alton Democrat, June 5, 1905, Hull news:

Arie Noteboom, age 67, died last week Monday after a long struggle. having been operated on some months ago but found that cancer caused all his trouble. He is survived by his wife and six children. Funeral services were held last week Thursday at the home and in the First Ref. church of Hull, Rev. Douwstra officiating. Interment in the Sioux Center cemetery.

ARIE NOTEBOOM DIES

On Monday occurred the death of Arie Noteboom, of Perkins, Iowa, after a long siege of illness. Death was the result of the incurable disease, cancer.

Mr. Noteboom was born in Holland in 1857 and came to this country when he was 25 years of age. He was married and had nine children, of whom six are still living.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, at the home at Perkins and in the First Reformed Church of Hull, Rev. Douwstra officiating. He was 67 years old at the time of his death. Interment was made at the Sioux Center Cemetery. The sincere sympathy of all goes forth to the bereaved relatives.

RESEARCH NOTES

His death certificate has him as Arie Nooteboom, born December 1, 1857 in Holland; parents names not known; retired farmer; wife Gertie Nooteboom; informant John Nooteboom, Lincoln, Neb.; died in Hull May 25, 1925 at 10:30 a.m. of carcinoma of stomach; death had been preceded by an operation on Jan. 23, 1925; buried May 28 at Sioux Center.

The 1900 U.S. census for Welcome Township, Sioux County, has Arie Nootenboom, age 42, born Dec. 1857 in Holland, immigrated in 1884, naturalized, a farm laborer, married 6 years; wife Grietjie, age 30, born Nov. 1869, mother of 3 children, all living; sons John (5, born June 1894 in Iowa), Henry (3, born June 1896 in South Dakota), and Garret (1, born Aug. 1898 in South Dakota); and father-in-law John Niesink (75, born Nov. 1824 in Holland, immigrated in 1892, an alien).

The 1910 U.S. census for Welcome Township has Arie Noteboom, age 52, born in Holland, immigrated in 1884, a farmer, married 16 years; wife Gretchen, age 39, immigrated in 1881, mother of 7 children, 6 living; sons John (15), Henry (13), Gerrit (11), Cornelius (6), and Lubbert (2), and daughter Rieka [Hendrika?] (7).

The 1920 U.S. census shows Arie and Grietje Nootenboom living in a rented house in Hull; both naturalized in 1893; he has no occupation. Living with them are sons John (26), Henry (24), Garrit (21), Cornelius (16), Leendert (9), and Lubbert (8). John is a road boss, public roads, and Henry, Garrit, and Cornelius are farm laborers.

The 1925 census for Lincoln Township [Hull?], Sioux County, has Arie Noteboom (67), wife Gertie (55), and sons Lun [Leendert] (14), Lubbert (13), and Case [Cornelius] (21). Arie’s parents are given as William Noteboom and Nelitje[?] Noteboom and Gertie’s as John Niesink and Hendrike Velthoun[?]

The Sioux County marriage register has groom Arie Nootenboom, age 35, born in Holland, residence Welcome Township near Sioux Center, a farmer, parents Jan Hoff[?], adopted father, and Neiltje[?] Noteboom; bride Grietje Niessink, age 23, born in Holland, residence Welcome Township, parents Jan Niessink and Hendrikje Veldhoen; married in Sioux Center November 29, 1893.

Neither he nor Grietje/Gertie appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index.
