Roger De Stigter passed away on August 16, 2016, one day after his 78th birthday. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years Harriet (Peters) De Stigter, his children: Connie & Ken Van Engen of Kansas City, MO; Greg & Julie De Stigter of Redlands, CA; Frances & Phillip Mulder of Redlands, CA; Jennifer & Glen Van Dam of San Jacinto, CA; Rhea & Glenn Vander Woude of Nampa, ID; and Jim & Rachel De Stigter of Escondido, CA; and his grandchildren: Reid & Bekah Van Engen, Mitchell Van Engen; Noah & Isaiah De Stigter; Haley, Cassidy, Lucy & Jack Mulder; Jacob, Lucas, CalliAnne, Olivia & Harrison Van Dam; Russell, Celia, Abby, Zachary & Hannah Vander Woude; and Elliot & Brooklyn De Stigter.

Roger was born in Hull, IA on August 15, 1938 to Gilbert & Cecelia De Stigter. He attended Sioux Center Christian School, Western Christian High School, went on to Dordt College and then graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. On June 22, 1961, he married Harriet Peters. Soon after, he was drafted into the army and served two years overseas in Germany. After his commitment to the army ended, he returned to Sioux Center where he worked faithfully for De Stigter Brothers’ Construction for many years. In 1985, Roger moved his family to Escondido, CA where he was employed by Superior Ready mix until he retired at the age of 72. He enjoyed going to baseball games and attending the many activities of his children and grandchildren. Spending time with family was his favorite thing to do. He also loved a parade and attended 22 Rose Parades in Pasadena, CA. He was a member of the Escondido, United Reformed Church and served as an elder as well as a catechism teacher for many years.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert & Cecelia De Stigter, and by his parents-in-law Gerrit & Clara Peters. He is survived by his brother Vincent (Jeanette) De Stigter of Pioneer, CA; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe & Jean Peters of Mesa, AZ.

His children and grandchildren praise God for the faithful Christian legacy he leaves behind.
Memorials may be directed to Redlands Christian School and Calvin Christian School.
