Mary "Betty" M. Jink, 98 of Gansevoorst, NY died Sept 29, 2016 at her daughter's home. There will be no calling hours and services are private. Mary will be interred next to her husbands Bill at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, ME.

Mary was born in Harrison Township, Benton County, IA. on July 16, 1918 to Edith Luella (Chenhall) Van Skike of Ireton and Vinton, IA.
Mary attended the Methodist Episcopal Church as a child in Ireton and was a member of the Okoboji Epworth League. Mary's faith was important to her and in her lifetime she attended United Methodist Churches in Bangor, ME, Churdan IA, and Fortsville in Gansevoort, NY.
Mary attended Ireton public schools; she was the valedictorian of her class.
Mary Graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1939 with a major in English and Minors in Latin and Speech. She taught high school students for three years in the district of Hudson (Black Hawk County) Iowa in 1939-1941.
On Oct. 1 Mary graduated from the Civil Aeronautics Administration in Kansas City, MO as a Aircraft Communicator. She worked in radio control towers on base in Philip SD. Caper Wy. Tarkio, MO, Grand Island NE, and Wichita, KS.
First Lieutenant Air Corps William "Bill" Jinks and Mary were married on June 3, 1945 in Grand Island NE.
After the war, Mary and Bill established a poultry and dairy farm in Bill's home state of Maine., 1988, until they moved to Mary's state of Iowa where they cultivated corn and soybeans for another 28 years.
She is survived by a son, Donald of Albuquerque, NM; three daughters, Mary (Gary) Wilson of Bethel ME.; Kathryn (Homer) Johnson of Madrid, IA. and Patricia Flores' four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Nancy Kamies of Sioux Center; and nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson; four brothers, John, Bill, Delbert, and Hubert Van Skike; a sister-in-law, Crystal Kopp; and a brother-in-law, LeLand Jinks.
