From the Rock Valley Bee, October 31, 1924, Plato Township news:

Mrs. John Johnson died at her home near Hudson, S.D., after a few days illness. On October 13, 1924, she gave birth to a baby boy and was feeling fine. On Saturday she took cold and pneumonia and flu set in, and she passed to the Great Beyond on October 22, 1924.

She was born near Inwood, Ia., Jan. 27, 1897, and moved with her parents to the farm in Garfield township, where she grew to young womanhood. On Nov. 19, 1919, she was united in marriage to John Johnson, of Hudson, where in that vicinity she lived until her death. To this union were born two children, Alberta Floreice[Florence], now three years old and Louis William, age 10 days. Besides her husband and two children she leaves to mourn her departure, her father, mother, one sister, Cecelia, and two brothers, Albert and Arthur, relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Johnson home and conducted by Rev. E. O. Machamer, pastor of the M. E. church at Hudson. Six schoolmates and friends were pall bearers, namely: Oscar, Lewis, Wesley, and Emil Miller, Fred Yunker and Wm. Muehlenthaler. Burial took place at the Hudson cemetery.

SAD DEATH YOUNG GARFIELD MOTHER

Mrs. John Johnson died at her home near Hudson, S.D. Anna Johnson nee Lehman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Lehman of Garfield township died at her home near Hudson, S.D. after a four days illness, on Oct. 23th[?].

Those from a distance that attended the funeral of Mrs. John Johnson were Mr. and Mrs. Lew Lehman, Robt. Lehman and daughter Orpha and Mrs. Efford Humsberger of Elgin Ia.
