Born: February 18, 1889
Died: January 20, 1959

Born Cornelis Houtsma in Friesland, Holland. Son of Hendrik Houtsma and Jeltje Boutsma Houtsma. He immigrated to America from Sexbierrum, Friesland, Holland on April 21, 1903 with his parents and siblings. Husband of Jennie (Jacobsma) Houtsma, they married on February 8, 1917.

Funeral services for Cornelius “Neal” Houtsma, 69, retired farmer who died January 20, after a long illness, were held at 1 P.M. Saturday at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home and at 1:30 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Revernd Albert Van Dyke officiated. Burial was in the Hospers, Iowa Cemetery.

Mr. Houtsma was born February 18, 1889, in the Netherlands. Survivors include the widow, Jennie; three daughters, Mrs. Ray Smit of Boyden, Iowa, Mrs. Dale Merrill, Mrs. Nick Hulst of Paullina, Iowa; three sons, James of Sheldon, Syri of Chester, South Dakota, Henry of Redlands, California; two brothers, John of Sheldon, Nick of Hospers; three sisters, Mrs. Ben Mulder of Boyden, Mrs. Andrew Dykstra of Chicago, Mrs. Henry Abbink of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
