Henry Houtsma was born in the province of Friesland in the Netherlands, on December 6, 1886 to Hendrik and Jeltje Boutsma Houtsma.

They came to America in 1903. He came directly to Sioux County and settled on a farm near Boyden.

Mr. Houtsma married Stella Van Iperen in Orange City on July 15, 1915. During most of their 32 years of married life together they were engaged in farming. About twelve years ago Mr. Houtsma went into the feed and produce business in Orange City. He remained active in this business until February of 1947.

During the last year Mr. Houtsma was failing in health and had been confined to his home since February. Friends who visited him spoke of him as a patient sufferer.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church.

Four brothers and sisters survive him. All of these brothers and sisters live near by except one sister in Chicago and one brother in California.

A son preceded Mr. Houtsma in death. The two daughters surviving are Jeanette, Mrs. John E. Mouw of Orange City, and Johanna, Mrs. Warren De Beste of Orange City. There are four grandchildren surviving the deceased.
