Frederick H. Lamfers, age 83 of Sioux Center, IA died June 24, 2017 at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.

     Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA, with Reverend Carl Klompien officiating.

     Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, June 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

     Family would like memorial to be directed to:  Sioux Center Community Home Health & Hospice or the Friendship Bible Ministry.

     Frederick Henry Lamfers was born on March 17, 1934 in Ashton IA, the son of Henry and Hattie (Hector) Lamfers.  He was raised on a farm near Ashton and had many fond memories of his childhood and his pet calf Snowball.  Fred graduated from Ashton High School, then attended Northwestern College and later went back and took courses through SECO Community College in Hawarden, IA.

     Fred met Evelyn Lammers when his friend Al began dating her sister Lila.  On June 12, 1959, they were united in marriage and made their home in Sioux Center, IA.  To this union eight children were born.

     Fred worked for AMPI for the majority of his career; he started by hauling cream cans and then driving a milk truck.  He developed and cherished many of the friendships that were made with his customers and enjoyed the antics of their children as he was fondly known as “Freddy”.  After 40 years of working for AMPI he retired and then started driving a van for Casey’s Bakery which he did for more than ten years.

     His greatest joy in his life was his children, and especially his grandchildren.  He often said this was his greatest wealth, to be blessed by his family.  His retirement years were dictated by the schedule of his grandchildren.  He and Evelyn spent many hours babysitting the grandkids.  When his grandkids had a ballgame, he was there as their most devoted fan.

     His faith was also an integral part of who he was.  His greatest desire was for his children and grandchildren to know the Lord.

     Fred had a gift that connected him with others.  His quick smile and genuine love for God and others made him friends wherever he went.  He had a generous heart and a thankful spirit.  His family is blessed to know he is in his eternal home with the Lord.

     Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-eight years, Evelyn Lamfers of Sioux Center, IA; eight children:  Brian (Leah) Lamfers of Sioux Center, IA, Bruce (Carol) Lamfers of Sioux Center, IA, Julie (Ken) Dragstra of Lebanon, IA, Jane Lamfers of Des Moines, IA, Jeanine (Mark) Mixdorf of Johnston, IA, Bradley (Barb) Lamfers of Minneapolis, MN, Brent Lamfers of Marshall, MN and Janet (Myles) De Jager of Johnston, IA; seventeen grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law:  Lila Van Dyk, Judy Reimersma and Dorothy Mouw; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his brother, Ben Lamfers; his sisters:  Helen Buysman, Joann Reimersma,  Gladys Dykstra, and infant sister Frieda; and four grandchildren:  Chris and Jeffrey Dragstra and premature twins Nicholas and Emma De Jager.
