SUSAN STREFF HOMAN SUCCUMBS; MASS SAID AT ST. MARY’S FRIDAY--WAS MOTHER OF LARGE FAMILY

Requiem Mass was sung at St. Mary’s Church in Alton Friday, for Mrs. Susan Streff Homan, 85, who died at her home in Alton last Tuesday, January 20.

Born February 10, 1867, at Donatus, Iowa. Mrs. Homan was married to Frank Homan on January 22, 1889. The couple moved to a farm south of Alton shortly after their marriage, and lived there for many years until Mr. Homan’s death September 27, 1914.

Surviving are the couple’s eight children: John of Long Beach, California, Rose (Mrs. John) VanDeelen, Minenota, Minnesota, George of Remsen, Emma (Mrs. Nick) Fath, Alton, Mrs. J. Baltes of Worthington, Minnesota, Roman of Waterloo, and Julius and Odilo of Alton; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; , a sister, Mrs. John Arens, Lismore, Minnesota and a brother, Al Streff, New Orlens, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, January 23rd in St. Mary’s Church, of which she was a faithful member for 64 years. Solemn Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Z. Reising and assistants. Pallbearers will be long-time neighbors: Mike Gaspar, Mike Herrig, Frank Allen, J.T. Even, Joe Friedmann, George Henrich.
