Mrs. Emma Holden, wife of George Holden, deceased, and eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Tibbles, died at the home of her parents about 9 o’clock yesterday morning from consumption.

She was born in Ohio and came to Calliope with her parents when a mere child and here grow to womanhood. She was married to George Holden December 3, 1884. Her husband died June 7th, 1886, since which time she has never fully recovered from the shock and prostration which his sudden death brought on. That dreadful disease consumption soon fastened its tangs about her, and with her constitutions already weakened though mourning for her beloved husband, she was unable to fight it off, although struggling with fortitude to do so. Emma’s friends numbered all who made acquaintance. She leaves an orphan child of about three years of age.

The funeral took place today at 2 o’clock and a large concourse of friends gathered to witness the sad rites as the remains were laid in their as the remains were laid in their last resting place. The parents have the sincerest sympathy of the entire community in their sad hours of trial.
