From the Rock Valley Bee, February 29, 1924:

GRACE DEBRUIN

Grace DeBruin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. DeBruin of Rock Valley, passed away at the Rock Valley Hospital Friday, where she had submitted to an operation for appendicitis a week before. She was just recovering from the measles when taken to the hospital and from this pneumonia developed.

Grace DeBruin was born in Holland Oct. 12, 1907, and had attained the age of sixteen years, four months and twelve days. At the age of four years, she came with her parents to this country. The family has lived in Rock Valley and vicinity since that time.

Besides her parents, she leaves two brothers, Gerrit and Evert, and three sisters, Minnie, Gertie and Marie, all of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held from the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley Monday afternoon, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery for burial.

Vande Berg found information on Ancestry.com showing Grietje (Grace) De Bruin, 1907-1924, as the daughter of Gerrit De Bruin Jr., born 3 Jan 1864 in Harderwijk, Gelderland, Netherlands and died 14 Oct 1940 in Grand Rapids MI, and Marie Vanden Born, 1869-1964. They lived in Sioux Center and Rock Valley.
