From the Rock Valley Bee, February 8, 1924:

DEATH OF MRS. H. H. PEMBER

Mrs. H. H. Pember passed away at her home in Rock Valley, Friday morning [February 1] after a few days illness with pneumonia. She had not been in best of health for several years past.

The subject of this sketch was born at Mechanicsville, Iowa, Nov. 20th, 1864, where she spent most of her life until she was married to H. H. Pember April 29, 1883, when they located at Spencer, Iowa, where they lived for several years, moving from Spencer to Rock Valley in 1893, where the family have since resided. Four children were born to them, Huber, Knight, Marie and Paul. All survive her except Knight, who died Feb. 12, 1920.

Mrs. Pember had been handicapped for years by ill health. For this reason she has not been able to take the active part in community and home life that her talents and taste would have permitted. Through it all she has been a tender and patient mother and wife and loyal friend. Those who knew her best appreciated the true fineness of her nature.

More than a year ago, she suffered a broken ankle and from that time until her death, she has been confined most of the time to her room. Early last week she developed pneumonia, though on Thursday her condition seemed to be improved, and her sudden death is a great shock to the family.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, and a number of friends were present to pay their last respects to the departed. Many beautiful floral tributes were in evidence. Among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were, Mrs. E. F. Cobb, of Akron, Iowa; Mrs. Arthur Little, Sioux City; Mrs. John Scott, Geddes, S.D.; Mrs. John Lawler, Terrill, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Griggs, of Spencer, Iowa.

From the Alton Democrat, February 9, 1924, Rock Valley news:

RELEASED FROM LONG SUFFERING
Mrs. Pember Passes to Heaven's Reward

Mrs. Statira Huber Pember, wife of H. H. Pember, died at her home Fri. Feb. 1 after a brief illness due to pneumonia which was unexpected by the members of the family.

The deceased was born in Mechanicsville, Ia. Nov. 20 1864 and at the time of her demise was 59 years 2 months, 11 days of age. She was married to H. H. Pember April 29, 1883 and as a result of this union four children were born to them. All survive her except Knight who died about a year ago. Her early life was spent in the community where she grew to womanhood, with the exception of two years she lived with her parents in Chicago and two years in Pittsburg, Penn. After their marriage they lived in Spencer where her husband was engaged in the drug business. In 1894 they came to Rock Valley where she continuously resided till her passing.

Mrs. Pember has been in ill health for many years and as a result she was not permitted to mingle in society and take part in the social activities of the community "that her talents and taste permitted." She was a member of the local Eastern Star and of recent years could not mingle with them by reason of physical infirmities. She was a patient mother, and a devoted and loyal companion. She was kind and considerate and companionable. Those who knew her best appreciated her most. About a year ago she broke her ankle and from that time she was confined to her home. Peaceably she lived, in peace she died, and her passing was like a golden sunset without a cloud to dim its luster.

Funeral services were conducted at the family residence at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. by Rev. W. C. Bergman, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment in Valley View cemetery. The family have the sympathy of their many friends in their hour of sorrow.
