Mrs. Alice Elsberry-Ludwig, age 84, of Alton, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, May 30, at 10:30am, at the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Keady will officiate. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, at 3:30pm, at the East Lawn Cemetery in Algona.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Alice May was born on May 20, 1933, in Sioux City, the daughter of Lawrence and Susan (Bradshaw) Nattrass. She was raised in Sioux City, where she graduated from the East High School.

On May 7, 1955, she married Dwayne Forrest Elsberry in Sioux City. They farmed in Brunswick, Nebraska, and Blairsburg. They then settled in Algona, where they started Elsberry Construction. Besides being a homemaker, she helped with their farms, was a bookkeeper for their construction business, and helped deliver motor homes for Winnebago Industries. She and Dwayne enjoyed playing Rook and Skip Bo, often with friends. Mr. Elsberry passed away on February 6, 2006, in Algona, after more than 50 years of marriage.

On October 6, 2007, she married Ronald Michael Ludwig in Orange City. They made their home in Alton. She and Ron spent many hours playing Rummikub. Mr. Ludwig passed away on October 29, 2016, in Orange City, after more than nine years of marriage.

Currently, Alice was living at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Alice was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Algona, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school classes, sang in the choir, and participated in many Bible studies. After she moved to Orange City, she was a faithful attender at the Dover Avenue Alliance Church.

She was an accomplished seamstress, doing much sewing and alterations. She used baking and cooking as a way of expressing her love for others. She was an advocate of natural healing, using nutrients and supplements, and she kept her mind sharp by solving puzzles.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Mel and Julie Elsberry, of Orange City; a daughter, Juliann Elsberry, of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Erin (Nic) Maranell, of Wheaton, Illinois; Emily (Andrew) Lundgren, of Spirit Lake; and Jay (Jade) Elsberry, of Chicago, Illinois; five great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Elsie and Ralph Edwards; a sister-in-law, Ruth Elsberry; and a brother-in-law, Don Ahlman.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Hazel Friis, Eugene Nattrass, Trudy Larsen, and Harold Nattrass.
