Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Geraldine was born on April 21, 1924, at the Schreur home in rural Alton. She was the oldest of eight children of Walter and Jennie (Smits) Schreur. She was raised in the Alton area, where she graduated from the public elementary school.

In her earlier years, she assisted many mothers with new born children and was well known for her baby-sitting. She was a clerk at the Alton Bakery for ten years and at Van’s Grocery Store in Alton for another ten years. Many remember her thirty years as a clerk at the Coast to Coast Store in Orange City. She fully retired in 1998 and spent her time volunteering in many ways, especially working for the blood bank.

Geraldine was a member of the Alton Reformed Church and the Floyd American Legion Post Auxiliary in Alton. She loved music and sang with many groups and individuals, particularly with her brother, Raymond, at funerals. She was a good seamstress, sewing bridal gowns, flannel shirts for her Sunday school class, and many Barbie doll clothes.

In 2015, she became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home and then transferred to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community for a few months, both in Orange City. She has lived at Prairie Ridge for the last two weeks.

Survivors include two brothers and a sister and their spouses, Arend and Beverly Schreur, of Sioux City; Joyce and Harold Van Wettering, of Hospers; and Raymond and Beverly Schreur, of Alton; two sisters-in-law, Leona Schreur, of Alton; and Verona Lubben, of Le Mars; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Schreur; and three sisters and their husbands, Gertrude and Andrew Gustad, Dorothy and Earl Lubben; and Loretta and Earl Carney.

She loved her Lord and was a friend to many. Blessed be her memory.

Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
