D. Roos died at his home in Alton on Wednesday May 28th of stomach trouble and other ailments brought on by his advanced years, after a sickness of three weeks. Deceased was born in Terschelling Netherlands on Nov. 2nd 1838. In 1862 he was united in marriage to Miss Japke Booth of Terschelling, Netherlands. This union was blessed with six children, four of whom survive. In 1867 the family came to America and in 1880 came to Sioux county. Mrs. Roos passed away in 1887 and on August 26th 1888 Mr. Roos was married the second time, his second wife who survives him being Mrs. Jane Wiersma. This union was blessed with one child who survives. Mr. Roos engaged in farming when he came to Sioux county. He saw the future of Sioux county clearly and he kept his credit exhausted for a number of years buying Sioux county land and he became one of Sioux county's biggest land owners. The funeral services are being held this Friday from the Reformed church of which deceased was a member. Rev. J. P. De Jong is in charge of the services. Interment will be made at Newkirk where deceased formerly resided. The surviving children are: Arie and Dick Roos of Hospers, Mrs. G. Van Es, Mrs. J. Van Es, Ed Roos and Gertrude Roos of Alton. He is also survived by his sister, Miss Grietje Swaart of Vlissingen Netherlands.
