From the Alton Democrat, November 10, 1923, Rock Valley news:

Arie Brouwer, a former resident of Rock Valley and a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. F. Vander Stoep, and while here was employed as a clerk in the Foppe Pioneer store and later moved to Minnesota where he engaged with his father-in-law in the creamery business. He went to Denver and entered there a sanitarium for his health, but the disease proved fatal and his remains were brought here Monday for interment. The funeral services were held at the Christian Ref. church at two o'clock P.M. conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. H. Geerling, assisted by Rev. Van Ark of Edgerton [Minnesota]. Rev. Van Ark delivered a sermon in the Holland language and the pastor spoke in the English. At the conclusion interment was in Valley View cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of their many friends in their hour of sorrow.

In the same issue of the Democrat:
Mrs. K. Vander Stoep and son Arie went to Rock Valley Tuesday afternoon to attend the funeral of Arie Brower. The deceased was a nephew of Mrs. Vander Stoep.

No obituary was found in the Rock Valley Bee, which, however, is incomplete for this time period.

A family report on Ancestry.com lists Arie Brower born 15 Jun 1883 Den Helder NH Neth. Died abt the 5th of Nov 1923 IA. Son of John Brouwer 1844 and Wilhelmine Ludeke 1845. He was married to Katie Vander Stoep (1893-1982). They were married 19 Mar 1913 Rock Valley IA. They were the parents of a daughter Alma Brower (1916-2003).
