From the Sioux County Index (Hull), August 3, 1923:

DIED OF PNEUMONIA

Casper Struck, one of the very oldest settlers of this vicinity, died at the Hospital Sunday [July 29], from pneumonia.

Mr. Struck was sixty-nine years old, was a single man, and had one sister, Mrs. Fritz of Ireton who was with her brother when the end came. He was born in Wisconsin, but had been a resident of this part of Iowa ever since his early manhood. At one time he owned the place now occupied by Peter Wallinga north of Hull.

The remains were prepared for burial at the Heemstra & VanderStouwe undertaking establishments here, Monday and taken to LeMars, where on Wednesday he was laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery.

From the Alton Democrat, August 11, 1923, Hull news:

Casper Struck died here last Sunday at the local hospital. Mr. Struck was in Rock Rapids during the recent storm at that place, and was assisting in clearing up some of the work done by the wind. He worked for some time in the rain where he contracted a cold, and after pneumonia which caused his death. When he found he was growing worse he asked to be taken to the Hull hospital, but he was beyond all help when he reached here.

Mr. Struck was born in 1854 in Wisconsin and came to Sioux County at an early age, where he lived for a number of years. He owned at one time the farm where Peter Wallinga now resides. For several winters after he disposed of his farm he made his home with his sister Mrs. Fritz of Ireton.

He leaves to mourn his loss his sister Mrs. Fritz and some nephews. The latter [the former?] was with him when he passed away. Monday his remains were taken to LeMars, and on Wednesday he was laid to rest in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery as this was the place he had chosen several months ago for his last resting place.
