Mrs. H. Eerkes died Sunday morning at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 2 days. Deceased was born in the Netherlands. In the spring of 1886 she came with her husband and four children from Groningen, Holland to this country. The family lived the first year at Orange City and afterward for about ten years at Freesland, S.D., a few years at Grand Haven, Mich., and then again in Orange City. Her husband died in South Dakota. She is survived by the following children: E. A. R. Eerkes at Oak Harbor, Mich.[ Oak Harbor is actually in Washington], Ed. Eerkes at Lynden, Wash., and J. R. Eerkes in this town. Besides there is a sister living in Zeist, the Netherlands who is 90 years old. Funeral services were held in the Christian Reformed church Wednesday afternoon.

Eerkes, H. Mrs. born 19 May 1832 died 21 Jan 1917 mother, buried West Lawn cemetery in Orange City IA as listed in the Sioux county IA cemetery index.

Note: In 1910 Gepke Eerkes was living in Holland township Sioux county IA, was 77 years old, a widow, mother of four living children, came to the USA in 1882. Found a family report on ancestry.com (done by others) Gepke Jonker born 1831 died 1917 was the daughter of Engel Kosses Jonker and Maria Kaspers Temmen. She was married to Harm Eerkes born 15 May 1835 Wildervank, Groningen Netherlands, he died 19 Jan 1891 at Platte, Charles Mix, South Dakota. Children were Erke 1862, Riender 1864, Maria 1867-1868, Engel ‘Edward’ 169 and Jan ‘John’ 1872.
