MRS. HODOWAY DIES AT HOSPITAL

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Hodoway, 92, who died Monday morning at the Hawarden Hospital following a two week illness were held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Barnard-Dow Funeral Home, Dr. G.S. Bruland officiated.

Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr. was the soloist with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker as organist. Casket bearers were Robert Hodoway, Bruce Ericson, Charles Reaves, Ronald Madsen, Herbert Wood, Jr. and Stephen Hodoway. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard-Dow Funeral Home.

Bertha Smith, daughter of Margaret Connell Smith and William H. Smith, was born June 18, 1874, at Lockhaven, Pennsylvania. She married Pierce Hodoway on March 6, 1893 in Tacoma, Washington. Following their marriage they came to Hawarden and continued to reside in this area. Mrs. Hodoway was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Mothers Club of the American Auxiliary and Maple Leaf Grove Woodmen Circle.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Eldon Ericson of Hawarden, Mrs. Paul B. Sharar of Clinton, Iowa, and Mrs. C.D. N. Gilfilian of Claromont, California; three sons, Harry and Edward Hodoway of Hawarden and Richard Hodoway of Rolfe, Iowa; two brothers, Porter Smith of Hudson, South Dakota, and Harold Smith of Hawarden; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Barnes of Brentwood, California, Mrs. Cordelia Rush of Hawarden and Mrs. Grace Wood of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Howard and Ward.
