Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Orange City May 8 for Mrs. Gerrit J. DeHaan, 87, longtime resident of Orange City community, who died at the Orange City Hospital May 4. Services were conducted by the Reverend R. Van Heukelom and burial was made in West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City.

Mrs. DeHaan, nee Gertrude Roetman, was born in The Netherlands July 3, 1881 to Gerrit and Marrigje (Kanis) Roetman. She was married to Gerrit DeHaan at Orange City February 13, 1908. The couple made their home on a farm near Orange City until retiring and moving into Orange City about 25 years ago. Mrs. DeHaan had been a resident of the Hull Nursing Home the past few months.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Anna Roetman of Orange City; six sons, Henry, Marion and John, all of Orange City, Chris of Chester, South Dakota, Gary of Detroit, Michigan, and Bernard of Sioux Falls; 20 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.

Gertje was born in the former province of Zwollerkerspel.

Arrived in New York on 30 Oct 1882 sailing from Amsterdam, Netherlands on ship Surrey.
