Funeral services will be held today for James Hill, 29, of Akron, formerly of Hawarden, who died of unknown causes at Fort Story, Virginia, an army base, last Friday, August 9. Reverend Harris Hostager will officiate at the service which will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. this morning (Thursday) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home.

A contingent of army personnel from Fort Leavenworth will serve as active pallbearers and conduct military rites at graveside. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Meinen, Keith Mitchell, Gene Waag, Bruce McPherson, Lloyd Miller and James Hawks.

Mrs. Glenn Gabel will serve as organist and Mrs. Norman Nielson sing “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”

James Hill was born October 10, 1938 to William and Treasa Ann Hoefer Hill in Iowa City and he attended the Hawarden Public Schools. He joined the army at the age of 17, returning in April from 18 months in Vietnam. He was assigned to Story in June. He was married to Glenda Klemme of Akron in September.

Besides his widow he is survived by his father, W.L. Hill of Vancouver, Washington; a brother, William F. Hill of Hawarden; and seven sisters, Mrs. Donald Reinking and Mrs. Elmer White of Hawarden; Mrs. Wayne Von Hagel of Akron; Mrs. William K. Kierks of Florence, Oregon; Mrs. Ruben Heubner of Vancouver, Washington; Mrs. Barney Koopsma of Fairview, South Dakota; and Mrs. David Kaskie of Anchorage, Alaska.
