John Hilton, 76, of Boyden, a retired postal clerk passed away Monday, May 23 at the Sheldon Hospital following a six day illness.

Mr. Hilton was born December 25, 1887 at Calamus, Iowa. He served in World War I and was a member of the William Monster American Legion Post 272 at Boyden.

On November 3, 1938 he was united in marriage to Anna M. De Vries of Boyden. They made their home in Boyden their entire married life.

He is survived by his wife; a brother Tony of Cumberland, Wisconsin; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Knutson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Mrs. Sadie Osggerby of Metairie, Louisiana; Mrs. Mary Peters of California and Mrs. Roy Jackson of Chicago City, Minnesota; besides several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 26 at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden with Reverend M.L. Camp officiating.

Burial was at the Boyden Cemetery under the arrangements of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon, with military services at the cemetery by the William Monster Post.

Pallbearers were George Reimers, William Kwikkel, John Sitter, George Horn, Henry Bosman and Cornelius Koole.

Mrs. Alfred Doorenbos was soloist and sang “I Need Thee Every Hour” and “When We See Christ”. Mrs. Dwight Blankers was at the organ.
