From the Sioux County Index (Hull), March 30, 1923:

Mrs. James Walters Passes Away

Mrs. James Walters, one of the pioneers of this vicinity, passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. John B. Mayer in Hull, Saturday noon. Mrs. Walters had reached the age of over eighty-three years.

Short funeral services were held at the Mayer home Monday at 1:30 o'clock and the remains were then taken to the depot and accompanied to New Richmond, Wisconsin, where she will be buried by the side of Mr. Walters who passed away some ten years ago. The services here were conducted by Rev. A. F. Schuldt, the singers being Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Beach, Mrs. Jerrie Dykstra and John Brouwer.

OBITUARY

Annie Ruskel Walters was born at Cornwall, Canada, December 27, 1839 and died at Hull, Iowa, March 23, 1923, having reached the ripe old age of 83 years, 2 months and 27 days. On September 8, 1857 Annie Ruskel took as her life partner and companion James H. Walters at Warsaw, Wisconsin. Soon after their marriage they moved to New Centerville, Wisconsin and from there, a little later, to Webster City, Iowa.

In 1871 they migrated to Sioux County taking up a homestead five miles north of what is now Hull. They lived there until the fall of 1879 when they became residents of Pattersonville (now Hull). The family returned to Wisconsin in 1900 and settled at Star Prairie. At this place James Walters passed away in 1914. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Walters had made her home with her daughter Mrs. Harry Cain at Biglow, Minn. until last December when she came to Hull.

There are left to mourn her going five children: Mrs. Cain of Biglow, Minn.; Mrs. Ida Holiday of Star Prairie, Wis.; Frank Walters of Deer Lodge, Mont.; Mrs. Myra Woods, of San Louis Obisno [San Luis Obispo], Cal., and Mrs. Eva Mayer of Hull, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grand children. One daughter, Mrs. Woods, was not able to be present at the funeral.

Mrs. Walters was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, the W.R.C. and the old Congregational church of Hull.
