Last Thursday morning a telegram came from Huron, S. D., announcing the sudden death of Mrs. D. Montgomery, and was a real shock to the community. Mr. Montgomery had left home the evening before to be gone several days looking after business matters, and no one apparently knew where he was going except his wife. A number of telegrams sent Thursday failed to reach him. He learned that she was dead through the Sioux City Journal, and hastened home from some point in Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery settled here in the early days and lived on their homestead, two miles south of town, which they still own, up to two years ago. They were leaders in the church and social life of the community. One of their daughters went as a missionary to India a number of years ago and died there. One of the memorial windows in the Methodist church is in memory of her. Mrs. Montgomery was an exemplary character and a noble Christian woman. She has been in failing health, suffering from a cancer of the stomach, but died of heart failure. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon and burial took place at Salem, S. D.
