Katherine Dreckman, 94, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at All Saints Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Reverend Kevin Richter and Reverend Merlin Schrad will concelebrate Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, with a combined Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all Rexwinkel-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Memorials can be made in Katherine’s name to All Saints Parish, Hospice of Siouxland, and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Katherine M. Thommes was born April 7, 1923 on a farm near Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Mary (Wohles) Thommes. She attended parochial school in Granville and later in Remsen.
She was united in marriage to Cletus Dreckman on November 26, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. They farmed northwest of Oyens, Iowa until 1955, when they moved to the Dreckman family farm east of Le Mars. Along with growing crops, they raised cattle and hogs for many years. In 2002, they moved to Le Mars. Katherine and Cletus were married for over 67 years before his passing on January 25, 2013.
Katherine was a member of All Saints Parish in Le Mars. She was active in Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters for many years. Through the years, she enjoyed fishing, tending to her flowers and plants, and playing cards. She also enjoyed quilting. She and Cletus also enjoyed taking bus trips throughout the United States and their trip to Europe to visit Luxemburg. But most of all, she loved the times spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her son: Gary (Karen) Dreckman of Le Mars; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Chad (Beth) Dreckman of Le Mars and their children: Andrew, Brady, Logan, and Shayla; Greg (Kris) Dreckman of Le Mars and their children: Matt, Brittney, and Erika; Kelli (Chris) Kautz of Norfolk, NE and their children: Dylan, Taylor, and Mason; Sandy (Joel) Feldt of Denver, CO and their children: Willa and Wyatt; Lori (Mark) Heneen of Centennial, CO and their children: Nicolas and Evan; and Leah (Derrick) Markley of Omaha, NE; her sisters in law: Joan Thommes of Omaha, NE, and Loretta Schnepf of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cletus; 3 sisters: Vitalena Penning, Leona Goebel, and Dorothy Tillotson; her brother: Bill Thommes; her sisters in law: Doris Kellen and Marilyn Phelen; her brothers in law: Andrew Penning, Magnus Goebel, Don Tillotson, Leland Phelen, Lawrence Kellen, and Ralph Schnepf; and several nieces and nephews.
