Irwin Mulder was born April 16, 1923, at Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Ed and Ida (Borgman) Mulder. He moved to Ireton, Iowa at the age of 16 and married Gertrude Vander Kooy October 29, 1948 at Ireton. The couple farmed near Ireton and Irwin also did custom work for others. He was a carpenter, a building mover and a jack of many trades.

Irwin was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton and was an active counselor with the cadets for over 20 years.

Irwin died suddenly Monday, February 2, 2004 near his residence at the age of 80 years.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; four daughters and three sons, June and Tim Dykstra of Sioux Center, Iowa, Joann and Steve Rietema of Helena, Montana, Jean and Gerald De Bey of Sioux Center, Joy and Tim Van Schepen of Arnolds Park, Iowa, Jeff Mulder of Ireton, Jim and Leanne Mulder of Sioux Center and Jay Mulder of Ireton; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ben and wife Jo of Pella, Iowa, and Curt and Sharon of Denver, Colorado; three sisters, Geneva Kramer of Sioux Center, Edna Mulder of Orange City, Iowa and Ila Schiebout and husband Chris of Orange City; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Mulder of Ireton and Gladys Mulder of Orange City.

Irwin was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Mulder; and infant grandson, Gabriel Peter Dykstra; and four brothers, William, Lawrence, Clarence and Alvin.

Interment: Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, Iowa.
