Sioux County Index July 27, 1967

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, 1967, at St. John Lutheran Church north of Boyden for Wm. A. Winter. Rev. R. O. Wendel officiated from the Text in II Timothy 4:6-8, as requested by Mr. Winter. A quartet composed of Mrs. Loren Steuven, Mrs. Norvin Winter, Lyle Hollander and Ronald Kruse sang “Let me Go”. The congregation sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Abide With Me”. Organist was Mrs. Lowell Woelber. Casket bearers were six nephews, Edgar Winter, Elmer Mahler, Walter Hensch, Henry Hundt, William Jantzen and Robert Henning. Burial was at St. John’s Cemetery under the arrangements of Vogelaar Funeral Home of George.
Wm. August Winter, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Claus H. and Metta Sophia Leutjens Winter was born February 18, 1887 in Sheridan Township at Boyden, Iowa. He was a baptized member of St. John Lutheran Church of Boyden on March 13, 1887. When a boy he was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at the same church on March 31, 1901 by the Rev. Baetke. He grew up in the Boyden area where he received his schooling and was very interesting in community affairs in both church and school.
Mr. Winter was united in marriage to Marie Reyelts on February 17, 1914 at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull, by Rev. Bunge, at the home of the Reyelts. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Winter made their home 3 miles north of Boyden where they lived their life together with the following children born to them: Kenneth Winter of Sioux City, Wallace Winter and Lloyd Winter of Boyden, (Alema) Mrs. Vernon Heitritter of Boyden; (Chrystal) Mrs. Waldo Kruse of Burt, Iowa and (Fern) Mrs. Conrad Krahling of Ashton.
One son, Harold Glenn preceded them in death in 1923. Mrs. Wither was preceded in death by his wife Marie on July 28, 1961. Since that time he made his home along.
Following a lingering illness he was called to his Heavenly Home at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 25 days on July 15. He is survived by his children, 25 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one brother [unreadable] of Orange City, three sisters [unreadable] Mrs. Fred [unreadable] of Watertown, S.D. (Minnie) Mrs. [unreadable] of Mitchell, S.D.’ and [unreadable].
