Died: 1935

The body of Mrs. Albert E. Hefferens who died at her home near Garvin, Minnesota, at 9 o’clock Tuesday evening of last week, was brought to Ireton Saturday evening and was taken to the Mrs. F.F. Faringer home where it is remained until funeral time and where many old friends and neighbors of the deceased called and paid their respects.

Short services were held at the Faringer home Tuesday afternoon and from the Methodist Church at 2 P.M., the pastor from Garvin, Minnesota and Reverend S.W. Tompkins being in charge. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery where rests her father and mother. Many were the tributes and expressions of sympathy to the husband and daughter of the deceased. Monday, January 21st, was the 44th wedding anniversary, 43 of them spent together in happiness, this last one still together, but one silenced forever. How the memories of those years must come to the one left, who must now go on alone. May he receive the strength and comfort from whence all help comes to carry on. Theirs was a beautiful life, devoted to each other and their loved ones. She was taken ill more than 16 months ago and since that time, an invalid much of the time, her husband saw to it that her every wish was granted and that all the comfort and care was hers. At times she rallied and could get around only to be again sized with other attacks which left her weakened. More than a month she spent in a hospital in Tracy, Minnesota, but the angel of death claimed its own.

She was born to Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Welch at Syracuse, New York, October 2, 1867, so had reached the age of 67 years, 3 months and 13 days. The Heffernan family, who for many years lived in Ireton and vicinity, moved to Hawarden 24 years ago where they resided for two years and they then went to Garvin, Minnesota, where they moved onto a farm which has been their home for the past 22 years.

At the age of 12 she was baptized and joined the Baptist Church at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Albert E. Heffernan at Orange City, January 21, 1891, and to this union one daughter, Mrs. Louis Roberge of Minneapolis, was born. The family joined the Congregational Church at Garvin ten years ago where the deceased was active in every Christian work and duty. She was a member of the Woman’s Relief Corps for 35 years when that organization did much as an Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic. Her Christian character and out look on life, her patience and devotion will always be as priceless as pearls to her loved ones. Besides her husband and daughter, one brother, Sidney J. Welch of Sioux City, and four grandchildren, Altevene, 9, Albert Louis 5, Leora Jewel, 3, and Maurice Roberge, and other relatives and friends mourn her departure.

The pallbearers were C.B. Houlton, Frank Parrott, Frank Fritz, J.A. Lindenman, N.O. Westre and James Fetter of Garvin, Minnesota.
