Mrs. Claus Winter

Mrs. Emma Caroline Johanna Winter nee Sthoer, wife of Claus Winter, passed away on Wednesday evening at 9:20, after an eighteen months’ severe suffering, at the age of 51 years, 9 months, 5 days.
She was born at Burlington, Wis. On the 1st of December, 1871. From there she came with her parents to Hull, Ia., in the year 1880. On the 6th of January, 1893 she was united in holy wedlock by Rev. Baethke of Boyden with her surviving husband, Claus Winter.
They resided first on a farm near Hull but later on moved to Boyden where Mr. Winter engaged in business. In 1914 Mr. Winter returned from business and they moved to our city, where she has been living ever since.
Mrs. Winter was in delicate health for many years, but about 18 months ago she began failing. Though the best medical care was given her, her condition grew worse month after month. Her husband did not spare expense nor care to relieve her of intense pain, but it seemed that no one could do anything to give her relief. In the beginning of her sickness it seemed hard for her to give up hope of recovery, but finally she resigned to God’s will and with sincerity of heart, she prepared for her last journey. Her prayers and our prayers arose constantly to the throne of God, to deliver her from all suffering and take her soul unto Him. Wednesday evening she fell asleep as we surely hope in true saving faith. May God the author and giver of all comfort console the grieving husband and relatives.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church also a member of the Ladies Aid society. She leaves to mourn her departure; her husband Claus Winter, one sister, and four brothers, three sisters having preceded her in death.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon from St. Paul’s Lutheran church. The Rev. Baethke of Boyden, her former pastor, and the Rev. Flentje officiated. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery near Hull, Iowa.
