Mrs. Joy Vogel, age 77, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 1, at 11:00am, at the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Keady will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Joy Jeannine was born on September 12, 1939, at Le Mars, the daughter of Verner Tegner and Gladys Elvira (Swanson) Johnson. She was raised on a farm near Marcus, where she graduated from the Marcus High School. She then attended the St. Paul Bible College, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from Westmar College, in Le Mars.

On August 16, 1960, she married Albert Marvin Vogel in Le Mars. They made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker and taught fourth grade for two years.

Joy was an active member of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church where she served as choir director for many years. She had a heart for missions which she faithfully supported in her prayers and gifts. She was also an accomplished oboist and played invarious groups including the Iowa High School All State Orchestra, Sioux County Orchestra and many Tulip Festival Night Show productions.

Survivors include her husband of more than 56 years; two sons and their wives, Douglas and Jennifer Vogel and Mark and Patricia Vogel, all of Orange City; two daughters, Lisa Vogel, of Blaine, Minnesota; and Vangie, and her husband, Jason Salminen, of Chaska, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Adam Vogel, and his wife, Hannah, of Denver, Colorado; David Vogel, of Beverly, Massachusetts; Emily Vogel, of Orange City; and Samuel and Georgia Salminen, of Chaska;two brothers and their wives, Verdell and Marion Johnson, of Cleghorn; and Darrell and Nora Johnson, of Faulkton, South Dakota; Marv’s family, George Vogel and Frank Vogel, both of Orange City; Bertha Stephenson, of Sioux City; Arthur Vogel, and his wife, Shirley, and Margaret, and her husband, Roger Roghair, all of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Doris Vogel, also of Orange City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Joyce Vogel, John Vogel, Lois Vogel, and Patrick Stephenson.
