Mrs. Henry Heemstra of Hospers Dies

The people of Hospers were deeply shocked to learn of the passing of Mrs. Henry Heemstra at an Orange City Hospital on Friday evening, August 15 at the age of 48 years, 7 months and 11 days, death being caused by embolism.

Mrs, Heemstra, nee Gertrude De Haan, was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. De Haan of Orange City and was born on January 4, 1893, on a farm near Orange City.

Here she grew to young womanhood and on 1 January 1, 1917, was united in marriage to Henry Heemstra of Orange City. The young couple later moved to a farm near Orange City, later moving to the Boyden and Alton communities. Five years ago the Heemstras moved on a farm east of Hospers where the family still resides.

Three children were born tot his union, Angeline, Albert and Lois, who, with their father, survive the deceased.

Mrs. Heemstra was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church and where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and as past President of the Daughters of Dorcas.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 12:45 at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed Church. Reverend G. Doctor, local pastor, was assisted by Reverend J.G. Brouwer of the Trinity Reformed Church of Orange City. Interment was made in the family plot at the Orange City Cemetery.

Besides her husband and children the deceased leaves to mourn her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. De Haan of Orange City, three sisters, Mrs. H. De Wolf of Mason City, Mrs. J.L. Mouw and Mrs. C. Bakema of Orange City, four brothers, Vernon De Haan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Henry, Jake, and Herman De Haan of Orange City, besides a large circle of friends.

Pall-bearers were Henry Klein, H. Rozema, Edward Grotenhuis, Ben Muilenberg, C. Rensink and Neal Deekever.
