FORMER HAWARDEN BOY DIES--ELDON E. HAWKS PASSED AWAY MONDAY AT HIS HOME IN MINNEAPOLIS

Eldon E. Hawks, a former Hawarden resident, died at his home in Minneapolis Monday. The remains were brought to his boyhood home in Hawarden Wednesday afternoon for burial. A short funeral service was conducted at the Ross Funeral Home at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon by Reverend J.E. Bruner, pastor of the Baptist Church and interment was made in the family lot in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Eldon E. Hawks was born at Rolfe, Iowa, January 24, 1901, so was but a few days past 27 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Hawarden with his parents in the year 1910 and resided with them until 1920 when the family moved to Westfield, Iowa, later moving them to Dell Rapids, South Dakota. About three years ago he was united in marriage with Ada May Haskins of Vermillion, South Dakota, and they made their home in Vermillion until last September when they moved to Minneapolis. To this union one daughter was born, Vertagene Hawks, who is about one and one-half years of age.

Besides the widow and daughter, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Hawks of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, one sister, Mrs. Stephen Burke of Dell Rapids, and four brothers, Lee Hawks of Westfield and Alfred, Russell and Lester Hawks of Dell Rapids. Two brothers preceded him in death and are buried here.

Eldon Hawks was a member of the Woodmen of the World and while living in Vermillion served as a member of the National Guard. He was with the troops that patrolled the State Game Lodge in the Black Hills during the stay of President Coolidge there last summer, serving as bugler sergeant. The old friends of the family here extend sincere sympathy to them in their present sorrow.
