Mrs. George Haverkamp, nee Gertrude Vander Waa, life-long resident of Orange City, died April 23 at the local hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks.
She was 83 years old and had been active in her church and the social life of the town up to the time of her illness.
Gertrude Vander Waa was born at Orange City in September, 1877, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Vander Waa, pioneers and among the founders of Orange City.
She was married June 5, 1913 to Mr. Haverkamp, who preceded her in death January 9, 1959. Survivors include three sons: George E. of Minneapolis; Robert V. of Park Forest, Illinois; and Clifford M. of Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Guy Vanden Burg of Sioux City, and sister-n-law, Mrs. Kitty Vander Waa of Orange City.
Funeral services will be held Friday at l:30 from the American Reformed Church, of which she was a member, Reverend Alvin Hook officiating.
Mrs. Haverkamp was an active church worker, member of the Woman's Club, Vice Chairman of the Red Cross, and long a leader in the civic and social life of Orange City.
