Sioux County Herald August 12, 1880
Died

At the Orange House Saturday, evening of diphtheria, Lee, infant son of Willis C. and Ella Wyatt, aged 13 months and 25 days.
—This sad occurrence cast a gloom over our little town Sunday morning, such as has never been experienced before in the history of the place. The death of little Minnie which was chronicled in our last issue, was a severe loss to all friends and relatives of the parents, as well as to the parents themselves, she being the pet of all the boarders at the hotel and all others who became acquainted with her.
Little Lee was taken ill at the same time Minnie was, and at the time of her death hopes were entertained of his recovery, and these hopes were sustained by his appearance until Friday, when they saw that the disease had baffled medical skill and had laid deep hold on its little victim.
The little one suffered constantly but patiently from the time he was taken ill until his death, which was only one week—a long, anxious week to the watching, ever hopeful parents. But the angel of death relieved the little fellow of all suffering and wafted his baby spirit above to meet his little sister who passed over the mysterious river before him.
The funeral services took place at the hotel Sunday afternoon, and the attendance was large, the largest in the annals of the place. Rev. Buursma conducted the services in an appropriate manner, after which the mortal remains of little Lee were, placed beside his sister in the garden lot east of town. Upon arrival at the burial spot it was seen that some kind, sympathizing hands had strewn flowers over the newly made grave, which were highly appreciated by the bereaved ones.
This is a severe loss to the grief stricken parents, and they have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sad affliction. The light of their life and home has been taken from them and it will be a long time ere they ever partially recover from the loss, but time eraseth all things, and they should ever remember that:
They have passed just over the river
To that bright and peaceful shore,
Where they shall dwell forever,
Free from sorrow evermore.
