Isaac Woudstra

Ike Woudstra, 90, of Hospers, died Friday, Sept. 22, 1995 at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. Services were held Monday, Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Jelmer Groenewold officiated. Burial was in Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Hospers.
Ike was born June 8, 1905 in the Netherlands, the son of Louke and Renske (Bouma) Woudstra. He married Willemina Reinsma Feb. 5, 1930 in Orange City. She died Dec. 8,1976. The couple farmed northwest of Hospers until 1946.They then moved to Hospers where Mr. Woudstra and his brother, Ted, purchased the Verschoor Packing Company. In 1960 Mr. Woudstra founded what is now Packerland. He entered the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon Dec. 12, 1982 and the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon on Dec. 26,1990.
Mr. Woudstra was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hospers where he served as an elder. He was a charter board member of Dordt College and a board member of Hospers Christian School. Mr. Woudstra served as mayor of Hospers for many years.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Lloyd and Gertrude of Sheldon, and Erwin and Marlene of Hospers; a daughter and her husband, Gwen and Bernie Bousema of Sheldon; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
